About this event
Suitable for beginners; no prerequisite. Aerial, or "suspension" yoga, is a fusion between a traditional yoga practice and aerial dance. The hammock becomes a prop and a partner as students are lead through suspension flow sequences. While still utilizing lateral bends, forward and backbends, balancing, and twisting postures, inversions become a bigger part of a suspension practice as the hammock supports the body to experience spinal decompression, lymphatic and circulatory system detoxification, and the mood enhancing benefits of stimulating cerebrospinal fluid to the brain. The hammock supports roughly 50% of the body weight, making some postures easier to experience, while changing the dynamic of others and making them challenging in new and interesting ways. Aerial yoga is neither easier, or harder, than a traditional yoga practice; it is simply different. All persons of any shape, size, gender representation, age (over 14), or physical fitness level can participate in an aerial yoga class. That being said, please be aware that if you are experiencing any of the following conditions are contraindicated for aerial yoga, and you will not be able to participate in an aerial yoga class while you are experiencing the following conditions: Recent Surgery Very High or Very Low Blood Pressure Pregnancy Glaucoma Head Cold, Flu, or Sinusitis Heart Disease Easy Onset Vertigo Osteoporosis or Bone Weakness Recent Concussion or Head Injury Hiatal Hernia or Disc Herniation Recent Stroke Epilepsy Artificial or Re-Surfaced Hips Botox (within 48 hours of class) Please be sure to consult your physician before starting any new physical wellness regime.
