- ➤ Kaiser Aluminum expanded its heat-treat furnace capacity at the Trentwood facility in Spokane Valley after a $25 million addition that increased output (5%). The upgrade improved aluminum for aerospace, ground transportation and engineering industries. Inlander
- ➤ United Airlines will add a nonstop flight from Spokane International to Houston starting May 23 through Aug. 8 — offering improved one-stop connections to Latin America and beyond for Spokane travelers. The Spokesman-Review
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ MLK Jr. Day events begin Sunday with a service at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ (3–5 p.m.) and continue Monday with a rally at Spokane Convention Center followed by a march and a Resource Fair (11–1:30 p.m.). The Spokesman-Review
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Spokane Community College is offering a 10-week Introduction to Biomanufacturing program in February to train students for healthcare advanced manufacturing. The program costs $995 (with many paying just $25 thanks to grants) and was developed with input from Jubilant HollisterStier. Spokane Community College

- ➤ Congressman Michael Baumgartner has launched the second annual Classroom to the Capitol contest that will give one teacher the chance to attend the State of the Union on Feb. 24; nominations are due by Feb. 8 and the winner must cover their travel + lodging. KHQ

- ➤ In Wednesday’s Greater Spokane League wrestling, Gonzaga Prep boys won 70-6 over Central Valley while other schools posted pin wins; on the girls side, Cheney beat Lewis and Clark 62-18 and Rogers edged Deer Park 39-18 (pin finishes played a key role in several bouts). The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Eastern Washington's forwards Eggers and Grossman led the Eagles with 34 combined points and 25 rebounds as they beat Weber State 73-58 on Thursday night at Reese Court in Cheney. Guard Gallatin added 18 points in a game that highlighted the team's balanced scoring. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Gonzaga’s Braden Huff is sidelined for 4 to 8 weeks after injuring his left knee in practice in Spokane earlier this week. He may return before the regular season ends on Feb. 28 if his recovery proves faster. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Gonzaga's women's basketball team rallied late for an 82-69 win at McCarthey Athletic Center on Thursday. Coach Lisa Fortier called a timeout with 7:03 left & switched to a zone, sparking strong play by freshman Lauren Whittaker and sophomore Allie Turner as the Bulldogs improved to a 13-6 overall record.
