Good morning, Spokane. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 25th of January.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In 1976, the federal government planned to cut Amtrak funding — a move that would have ended Spokane’s North Coast Hiawatha route while the Empire Builder continued. In 1926, officials proposed a 15-minute downtown parking limit to ease congestion as streetcar fares climbed.  The Spokesman-Review
  • The City of Spokane is considering changes to Grand Boulevard on South Hill to make the roadway safer for pedestrians and cyclists. City planners propose reducing lanes (which could cut crashes by up to 24%) and will host a public meeting Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church for community input.  KXLY
  • Governor Bob Ferguson said border patrol’s detainment of a 10-year-old and her father in Spokane is wrong and un-American. He noted the child has lived here since age four and the family has valid documentation.  KXLY
