- ➤ A Spokane father and his 11-year-old daughter were freed from federal detention in Texas after months of separation following a successful legal petition, and city leaders later introduced a proposal to allocate $100,000 for emergency assistance to families affected by civil immigration enforcement. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A state bill could cut up to $1 million annually in funding for local nonprofits, including JOYA Child and Family Development, which provides physical, occupational and speech therapy to infants with disabilities—potentially delaying vital early intervention services, they said, and they urged community support to oppose the cuts. - ➤ Spokane Public Library has ended its partnership with nonprofit Peer Spokane due to exhausted stop-gap funding, leaving Central Library to seek new ways to support patrons with social services. KHQ
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A scabies outbreak affected 19 incarcerated individuals at Airway Heights Correctional Center during the week of Jan. 19. Medical staff checked for symptoms, provided treatment, replaced linens and cleaned surfaces on the day treatment was given — and the cause remains under investigation. KHQ

- ➤ The Flying Pickle, a new pickleball club, will open in June at 140 North Beck Road in Post Falls — featuring 24 cushioned courts, a championship court, and a restaurant and bar for players from the region. KHQ
- ➤ Gonzaga dropped to 12th in the AP poll after an 87-80 loss to Portland but bounced back with an 81-61 win over Oregon State. The Zags are projected as a four seed and will face Washington State today + visit Santa Clara on Saturday. The Spokesman-Review
