CULTURE NEWS

  • In Liberty Lake’s NoLL River District, CinemaQuattro—a new 4-plex cinema and wine bar with four theaters featuring 45 reclined seats each—will open by fall to showcase independent films and support local filmmakers.  KHQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Spokane Technical and Vocational School opened in July 1940 with a $70,000 grant to train 1,500 students, including military personnel; renamed in 1954, it evolved into Community Colleges of Spokane, now serving over 20,000 local learners annually — a lasting legacy for job training.  The Spokesman-Review

  • Spokane County Fire District 4 advises residents to prepare wildfire Go-Bags including food, water, medications, and important documents (covering the 6 P's) ahead of the approaching wildfire season.  KXLY

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sunday at Town Toyota Center, the Spokane Chiefs beat the Wenatchee Wild 4-2 after Chase Harrington scored twice in the third period to tie their conference standings; they will host Vancouver on Friday.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Spokane Valley runner Gunhild Swanson, 81, reached her milestone 100,000th mile on Saturday morning when she finished the Partners in Pain 5k in Spokane; she has logged every mile since 1978 + plans to keep running with support from her son.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Gonzaga coach Mark Few said junior forward Braden Huff is recovering from a left knee injury — he will miss at least four weeks of play including upcoming games and the West Coast Conference Tournament. Huff may return before the NCAA Tournament if his progress continues.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Former Gonzaga standout Chet Holmgren scored 10 points for Team Stars in the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif. He became the third Gonzaga player to earn All-Star honors, joining John Stockton and Domantas Sabonis.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Bloomsday Perennial Von Klohe, 78, is training to match his mother's record as he looks ahead to the 50th Bloomsday race (a cherished local tradition) on the first Sunday in May. He has overcome health challenges and celebrated decades of inspiring local runners.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Next Saturday, Feb. 21 and Sunday, Feb. 22, the Spokane Golf Show will open at the Spokane Convention Center with more than 100 exhibitors offering deals on rounds, equipment and travel; the event features an indoor driving range and free instruction for families.  KXLY
  • Gonzaga beat Santa Clara 94-86 at the Leavey Center on Saturday. Coach Mark Few said the win came from every player's effort with strong plays by Graham Ike and Tyon Grant-Foster.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Gonzaga’s pitching staff unlocked an extra-innings win on Sunday at Les Murakami Stadium (Honolulu) after losing two close games early in the series in Hawaii; the Bulldogs will complete the series today at 3:05 p.m. before heading to Texas State next weekend.  The Spokesman-Review
