CULTURE NEWS

  • Guinness World Record-holder Jacques ze Whipper will perform his circus-standup act at Spokane Comedy Club on March 10 and 11. Doors open at 6 p.m. and shows start at 7 p.m. —tickets are nonrefundable.  KXLY
  • Music teacher Janice Mayfield has written a choral work titled "For Anne, in the Attic" to share her feelings about current immigration issues and echoes of history. It will debut on March 1 at Unity Spiritual Center and be performed at Temple Beth Shalom on April 14 with a music video planned.  The Spokesman-Review

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Spokane mail carriers rallied on the Division Street Bridge Sunday to push for better contracts as national negotiations began, calling for higher starting pay, full benefits on day one, and a faster path to top wages.  KXLY
  • A report shows that between 2020 and 2024, Washington workers enjoyed a 2.3% boost in real purchasing power after inflation — Idaho led with a 3.1% increase. The findings from the Bureau of Labor Statistics highlight rare wage gains in two states amid national declines.  KHQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Longtime Supreme Court Justice Barbra Madsen will teach state constitutional law at Gonzaga and Seattle University Law Schools next year after retiring in April — Gov. Bob Ferguson will choose her replacement soon. Known for breaking barriers on the bench, she served five terms and twice as chief justice.  The Spokesman-Review

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Spokane Zero Waste and Waste Management partnered Sunday for a free clothing swap at North Spokane Library, drawing around 30 participants and keeping 132.5 pounds of textiles (167 items) out of the landfill. Unsold items were later donated to Global Neighborhood Thrift at 919 E. Trent Ave.  The Spokesman-Review

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spokane County Fire District 8 is holding joint+police training at Valleyford Community Church today through Tuesday, Feb. 25. The exercise will feature fire and law enforcement vehicles, and the district clarified there is no emergency.  KHQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Six-year-old Mira, recently named a national Children’s Miracle Network champion, overcame early life challenges including cleft surgeries with care from Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital and local support from the maxillofacial cleft program. Her journey highlights the importance of funds staying in the community (donations fund vital local services).  The Spokesman-Review

  • Gonzaga beat Pacific 71-62 Saturday as Graham Ike, who overcame a slow start, scored 21 points—tallying 12 in the final minutes—to lift the team with a strong defensive performance after Braden Huff’s injury sidelined him.  The Spokesman-Review
  • The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association released the 2026 state basketball tournament brackets on Sunday and awarded seven Greater Spokane League teams top 8 seeds (guaranteeing them a state venue spot regardless of regional results), with regional games set Friday and Saturday.  The Spokesman-Review
