  • Local artists will showcase their work at Custer’s 49th Annual Arts and Crafts Show next weekend at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center, where 250 artisans display fine art, specialty foods, and unique jewelry (single day admission is $9 while three-day passes cost $11).  KXLY

  • Male red-winged blackbirds are already calling and showing off bright red shoulder patches at local feeders as they fuel up for an upcoming mating season — birder Bea Harrison said the birds are competing for territory.  The Spokesman-Review

  • Shelley Carlson, 73, a lifelong Bloomsday Perennial from Pasco, will race with her family this year—hoping to beat her 2-hour, 14-minute finish and run up full Doomsday Hill—after overcoming car trouble on race weekend.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Cancer survivor Ethan Hughes scored a key goal in the second period to give the Chiefs a 5-2 win over the Tri-City Americans on Saturday during Hockey Fights Cancer night. Goalie Carter Esler recorded 22 saves as Owen Martin led with a goal and three assists.  The Spokesman-Review
  • State B Basketball will begin Wednesday in Spokane, marking its 66th year and drawing thousands of fans to local restaurants and hotels. Spokane Sports, which organizes the event, will launch its new Community Impact Fund to support local programs.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Gonzaga's Jalen Warley will miss his second straight game today at Saint Mary's with a left quad contusion, a school official said. Warley, averaging 7.1 points & 4.6 rebounds this season, first dealt with the injury after Gonzaga’s loss at Portland on Feb. 4 and may return in 16 days.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Saint Mary’s guard Mikey Lewis scored a career-high 31 points with seven 3-pointers in their 70-59 win over Gonzaga on Saturday in Moraga. Gonzaga, missing Jalen Warley, will look to bounce back in the WCC Tournament semifinals on Monday in Las Vegas.  The Spokesman-Review
