COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Spokane County will open three golf courses soon. MeadowWood and Liberty Lake will open on March 11 and Latah Creek on March 20; MeadowWood's driving range opened today, and tee times can be booked online up to 12 days in advance.  KHQ
  • Business partners Daniel and Jolly Ghebreab opened Broadway Foods + Broadway Laundromat on Jan. 30 in West Central to offer fresh groceries and essential services in a food desert. The brothers, who left forced conscription in Eritrea, now also invest in local housing and community jobs.  The Spokesman-Review

CULTURE NEWS

  • Seven high school seniors were chosen as the 2026 Lilac Festival Royal Court and will appear at the parade on March 14; one will be crowned Festival Queen during a March 28 coronation at Spokane Community College. They were selected after completing an eight‐week leadership and service program.  KHQ
  • Seven high school seniors were chosen as Spokane Lilac Festival’s 'Embrace' Royal Court — after a year of leadership training — and will debut at the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Parade on Saturday, March 14 in downtown Spokane and crown a festival queen on March 28 at Spokane Community College Auditorium.  KXLY
  • Spokane Symphony performed its Masterworks 6 on Saturday with guest conductor Shira Samuels-Shragg after Johannes Schlaefli was unable to appear + pianist Wynona Wang showcased her skills in Clara Wieck’s Piano Concerto and Brahms’ First Symphony.  The Spokesman-Review

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three high school seniors (2 from Lewis and Clark and 1 from Gonzaga Prep) were surprised on Friday morning with UW's Presidential Scholarship, which awards $10,000 per year to support their college studies. This honor recognizes their hard work and commitment to service.  The Spokesman-Review

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Spokane announced Tourism and Cultural Investment grants to boost local tourism and culture, offering up to $10,000 per organization plus a pre-recorded workshop for technical help; applications are due Tuesday, Mar. 31 at 5 p.m. via the city’s online portal.  City of Spokane

SPORTS NEWS

  • Saturday’s game saw Saint Mary’s beat Gonzaga 70-59 at UCU Pavilion—limiting star Graham Ike to four points in the second half. Coaches praised the tight defensive plan ahead of a possible rematch in the upcoming WCC Tournament.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Eastern Washington University cheerleader Megan Pratley stunts, flips and cheers with one underdeveloped arm + impressing during a basketball game against Northern Colorado. She began cheerleading in fall 2021 and now pursues a master’s degree in athletic training, proving her strength and determination.  The Spokesman-Review
  • After a 92-91 overtime loss to Portland on Saturday, Gonzaga women’s basketball confirmed a No. 2 seed in the WCC tournament — earning triple byes into the semifinals on March 9 at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.  The Spokesman-Review
  • After the weekend’s regional round, eight Greater Spokane League teams and 14 area small schools advanced to state venues in Tacoma, Yakima and Spokane. Elimination games begin Wednesday with quarterfinals on Thursday.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Eastern Washington is on an eight-game winning streak as it heads into tonight's regular-season finale at Reese Court against Idaho. Coach Dan Monson praised the team's depth and senior leadership, including Tyler Powell, who played a key role in a recent 102-94 win over Sacramento State.  The Spokesman-Review
