  • Gesa Credit Union announced it has secured exclusive naming rights for the Spokane Pavilion at Riverfront Park, a venue that can hold 5100 people and host family events. The ten year deal will help fund free programs and shows and proves the credit union’s commitment to our community+ it is their first sponsorship of this landmark.  City of Spokane

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 9:30 a.m., a crash blocks the left lane on I-90 westbound near the Barker Road off-ramp in Spokane Valley—drivers are urged to exercise caution and expect delays as emergency crews work to clear it.  KHQ

CRIME NEWS

  • The Spokane Independent Investigative Response Team finished its investigation into a police shooting in which four deputies fatally shot suspect Richard Rogissart (55) after reports he swung an axe at them on Jan. 30, and the case now goes to review by the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office.  KHQ
  • Airway Heights police arrested a father after a 911 call reporting loud noises led to the discovery of a 5-year-old boy with serious injuries in an apartment—child protective services now have custody as detectives investigate.  KHQ

CULTURE NEWS

  • The moon will turn deep red tonight during a lunar eclipse visible in Spokane— the partial phase starts at 10:15 p.m. local time and the total phase begins around 11:30, lasting about one hour.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ruben Trejo Dual Language Academy closed briefly Thursday after law enforcement investigated a nearby home on 4th Avenue and Thierman Road—officers took a suspect into custody and arranged for students to be bused to the Libby Center until the scene was cleared. The school resumed normal classes once the investigation ended.  KXLY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A powerful storm system is moving through our region on Thursday with strong winds up to 50 mph and rain that will change to a winter mix in some high-elevation areas. Cooler air and gusty winds are expected later today and over the weekend—bringing heavy snow to the Cascades and Sherman Pass.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A water main break on 3rd Ave at Lincoln St has disrupted traffic downtown. The city closed on-street parking on the north side and limited travel to two eastbound lanes — drivers are advised to plan for delays.  KHQ

  • Spokane Valley's Washington Extreme Cheer & Dance Magic team will compete at the national 'Worlds' event in Orlando from April 25—28 after winning the national title at the ATC competition, making them one of only two Washington teams invited.  KHQ
