EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Spokane Public Schools is offering free soccer clinics for students. KXLY
- ➤ Starting this week, Spokane Public Schools and the 90+ Project are offering free, one-day after-school soccer clinics at various elementary schools. The clinics will run Monday through Thursday through May and teach soccer skills and mental wellness practices to 1st through 5th graders. KXLY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The newly formed Climate Resiliency and Sustainability Board recommended that the City Council ask voters to rejoin the Aquifer Protection Area in April to protect the aquifer from threats like PFAS and urban growth. If approved, property owners would pay a fee (an annual $15 for single family homes) expected to generate about $1.8 million a year for water quality projects. City of Spokane
- ➤ Spokane City Council will vote soon on a proposal to fund eight new mobile surveillance cameras for $77,211 to help police keep the city safe. Council President Betsy Wilkerson (a supporter of the plan) said four cameras will be placed in plain view while four will be hidden and used immediately for criminal investigations if approved. KXLY
- ➤ Today the Post Street Bridge in downtown Spokane is closed to all cars until April 7 for the replacement of a 115-year-old crane at the substation & drivers are urged to use alternative routes while attractions like Mobius Discovery Center, City Hall, and Riverfront Park remain open. KHQ
- ➤ On Monday, the Spokane City Council approved an interim zoning ordinance that removes building height limits in downtown Spokane to boost economic development, housing and job opportunities. The ordinance takes effect immediately and will remain in effect until Sept. 24 — a move aimed at revitalizing downtown. KHQ
