COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Girl Scouts announced cookie season returns + with booth locations opening soon to offer classic flavors and support local programs. Residents can look forward to purchasing cookies at designated community events.  KXLY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Skyway Café remains closed as repairs drag into the second year after a Jan. 9, 2025 fire at Felts Field. Owner Sandra Melter said structural, electrical and interior work is still ongoing, delaying the reopening until possibly later this summer (subject to financial negotiations).  The Spokesman-Review

CULTURE NEWS

  • Spokane Print Fest begins Friday with gallery shows at Liberty and Spark Central, featuring free events through April 18. The Print Fest Fair runs Saturday, April 4 at The Hive from 2-6 p.m.; two workshops on April 11 and April 18 cost $75 and include all materials.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Canadian author Amal El-Mohtar launches her new anthology Seasons of Glass and Iron: Stories featuring award winning poetry and fiction; she will discuss her work with local author Stephanie Oakes at the Central Public Library on Monday.  The Spokesman-Review

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Farmers in the Inland Northwest face steep fertilizer & diesel price hikes as the war disrupts supply chains during planting season. Local growers are adjusting strategies in hopes supplies will stabilize later this year.  The Spokesman-Review

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Developers submitted plans for three housing projects: a $49 million townhome subdivision at Grandview/Thorpe, an apartment building aimed at students near Frances Scott Elementary, plus a unit lot subdivision near Stevens Elementary. The projects, in Spokane’s predevelopment phase, will update local roadways and add new housing once feedback is received.  The Spokesman-Review

SPORTS NEWS

  • Gonzaga’s women basketball team used its NCAA Tournament exit on March 20 as a jump pad for next season. Coach Lisa Fortier said the young team will work hard in the spring to build on their strong finish and add new talent.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Seattle’s Reign returns to Spokane this afternoon to face Louisville in a match that is set to spark local excitement. Fans can watch the game to see how the team fares in the competitive season.  The Spokesman-Review
  • The Spokane Zephyr and Sporting Jacksonville tied 1-1 in the USL Super League match Saturday at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville. The Zephyr snapped the opponent’s four-game winning streak and will face Dallas Trinity next Saturday at 2:30 p.m.  The Spokesman-Review
