Good morning, Spokane. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 30th of March.

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Spokane Watercolor Society will show its 2025 National Juried Show at The MAC from April 3 through May 4 at the Helen South Alexander Gallery — 2316 W. 1st Avenue — with 30 paintings picked from across the nation. Award-winning artist Michael Holter will judge the entries and give out over $2,000 in awards, and an awards reception will be held on April 13 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. with free admission.  KHQ
  • Over 30 local artists showed their work at the Spokane Woman’s Club Saturday afternoon at 33 Artist Market, where only 33 of about 125 applicants were chosen. Organizers said the next art show scheduled for this summer will be double the size of Saturday's show.  KXLY

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Spokane breakfast spots faced steep egg-price increases that peaked at over $8.50 a dozen in February—forcing local diners like Uncle Rusty’s and The Chalet to search for consistent supplies and absorb extra costs. Recent USDA data shows a decline, but owners worry the trend may not last—so they continue to keep prices steady for fixed-income customers.  The Spokesman-Review

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Ferguson met with Mayor Brown Saturday to discuss the state's budget challenges and visited the Veterans Home to review plans for a new facility next to the VA Medical Center—he said state funds are in place but federal dollars are still needed—and the budget request now awaits a decision from the legislature.  KXLY
  • Jeff Lambert, president of Friends of the Bluff, said state officials rushed a trade for the 200-acre Thorpe property in Latah Valley and that the Board of Natural Resources can cancel the deal at its April 1 meeting—this change would let Spokane get a park. He noted that new numbers and public comments raised concerns on the trade—prompting local leaders to favor the Trust Land Transfer option.  The Spokesman-Review

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Spokane planning documents show three housing projects: a $17 million Pacific & Perry Multifamily project near Liberty Park will build two buildings with 101 units, a low-income St. Agnes Family Haven near West Hills will add 48 units and a community room with work set to start in September, and a revised Latah Glen subdivision will offer 148 affordable manufactured homes on 40 acres near Highway 195 and South Cheney Spokane Road. City officials say these plans aim to improve local housing choices as the city continues to develop.  The Spokesman-Review

SPORTS NEWS

  • UCLA and LSU will face each other in the Spokane Elite Eight game today at noon at the Arena. UCLA’s Lauren Betts scored 31 points in the Sweet 16 win and LSU’s Aneesah Morrow scored 30 points and grabbed 19 rebounds—both players key in a tough game as teams try to win.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Two Wyoming families met at Spokane's Fan Fest Block Party at Riverfront Park on Saturday and enjoyed food trucks, music, and face painting while cheering for college teams. After the block party, some fans went into Spokane Arena to watch Connecticut beat Oklahoma, led by a 40-point effort from Paige Bueckers — a highlight of a busy sports weekend in Spokane.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Pullman native and Hall of Fame coach Max Jensen died Monday from complications of a stroke at age 85—he spent decades guiding runners at Spokane Community College and in local high school programs.  The Spokesman-Review
