CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A man was sentenced to 17 years in prison for murdering a tribal elder on the Colville Reservation during a domestic dispute on Oct. 18, 2022 — the judge also ordered five years of supervised release and restitution for funeral costs. KHQ
- ➤ A person was arrested for intentionally setting a fire in a bathroom of a second-story apartment at the Agnes Kehoe building on March 22—firefighters said an activated sprinkler helped contain the blaze while the unit was evacuated. KXLY
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife released its 2024 gray wolf report which showed that wolf numbers fell 9% to 230 in 43 packs from 254 in 42 packs as of Dec. 31, 2024+officials said recovery is not threatened. Three new packs formed in Kittitas and Okanogan counties+the report noted that poaching and illegal killings slowed progress in some regions. KHQ

- ➤ At-risk teens in Spokane County face losing crucial help after the state House passed a budget Tuesday that cuts nearly $14 million in grants for the Becca Bill—legislation created to protect kids in danger. A vote on changes to school truancy rules is set for April 8. KXLY
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Gonzaga is talking with transfer guards to fill its backcourt after losing four players from last season's team that won a tournament. The school has set up a visit for Izaiah Pasha—a guard from Delaware who averaged 11.9 points—and will reach out to others as it builds its team for next season. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Spokane Velocity played to a scoreless draw against Portland Hearts of Pine on Saturday at ONE Spokane Stadium — recording 60% possession and 15 shot attempts. They will host Texoma FC on April 13 at 4 p.m. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Gonzaga coach Mark Few did not get selected for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and must wait another year for his induction because he was not one of the nine chosen honorees.
