- ➤ The Spokane Fire Department responded to a stovetop fire on the 3000 block of West Gordon near the Garland District on Sunday night at around 7:20 p.m.—evacuating the family without injuries as they quickly put out the flames. KHQ
- ➤ A car fire on eastbound I-90 near the Thor-Freya interchange is causing traffic delays in Spokane — firefighters and traffic crews are working to extinguish the flames. KHQ

- ➤ A large crowd gathered downtown on Armistice Day 1930 to see the Abraham Lincoln statue unveiled at Main Avenue and Monroe, built to honor Union soldiers while some Civil War veterans were still living. Local fundraisers finished a last-minute drive that brought the bronze statue from New York in time for a dedication attended by Robert R. Stewart (84), the last living member of his GAR unit. - ➤ The Collegiate National Debate Tournament finale is taking place tonight at the Centennial Hotel in Spokane (in its 79th year) with over 400 student competitors from more than 50 universities who began competing on Friday. The teams are being narrowed from 32 to 16, 8, 4 and 2 before a national champion is crowned tonight. KHQ
- ➤ Washington State University has directed its 44 academic units to develop proposals to cut budgets and the Spokane Health Sciences unit will plan for up to 15% reductions — a measure meant to counter frozen federal grants, state budget shortfalls and declining enrollment — with proposals set for review before the board meets on May 21.
