COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Spokane Parks has released a new activities guide featuring upcoming outdoor events, family programs and community recreation across local parks — the guide is available online for residents to plan their visits and make the most of the season.  KXLY
  • Spokane County libraries are offering free tax help for residents planning to file by April 15. All 10 branches provide forms and free printing, and AARP volunteers help with IRS website navigation — easing filing stress.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Culinary students at West Valley High School prepared and served meals for Greater Spokane Incorporated at a recent dinner in Spokane Valley. They displayed school pride + teamwork during a panel discussion on culinary skills.  KHQ
  • Black students at Gonzaga University reported increased racism after a February fundraiser, prompting the Black Student Union + NAACP to urge administrators to improve campus safety and belonging. A task force was formed on March 17, but students say change remains too slow with six weeks left in the semester.  The Spokesman-Review

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spokane County Commission will consider buying about 80 acres on Beacon Hill near Camp Sekani Park next Tuesday for conservation at just over $2 million — officials say the land is a top priority for the Conservation Futures program even as concerns about future maintenance costs are raised.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Local governments and Spokane International Airport must deliver bottled water to West Plains residents after Ecology rejected their plan that required community members to fill their own containers, and the revised plan submitted on Apr. 3 mandates water deliveries within seven days for affected homes and businesses.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Local officials are evaluating changes to e-bike rules that could soon impact how Spokane bike riders navigate city streets, as discussions continue over safety measures.  KXLY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Spokane Velocity rallied to a 3-1 win over AV Alta on Tuesday at ONE Spokane Stadium for their first League One victory since March 21. They overcame an early deficit after Alta scored early with key goals from Andrew Booth, Shavon John-Brown and Nil Vinyals.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Gonzaga's backup center Ismaila Diagne, the only 7-footer on Mark Few's roster, entered the transfer portal Tuesday, joining four teammates amid large roster changes.
