- ➤ A 20-year-old Spokane man, Alex Hermanson, was critically injured in a mountain biking accident on Saturday in Zirconia, North Carolina—he crashed into a tree during a practice run for a downhill race, shattered several vertebrae, underwent immediate surgery, and is now awaiting transfer to Spokane for further care. - ➤ At 12:42 a.m. on April 9, firefighters responded to calls from a South Hill home at 608 West 27th Avenue where they found an adult woman and two dogs deceased—investigators began probing the cause today. City of Spokane

- ➤ Spokane County Sheriff's Office said that a 40-year-old man who was speeding and suspected of being under the influence crashed into a sign at 5 a.m. April 4 in Deer Park and died at the hospital (he was not wearing a seatbelt) (Medical Examiner will release his identity later). KXLY
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Avista Corp filed a request with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission to raise electric rates by 2.1% starting on July 1—this change will add about $2.55 to an average customer's monthly bill. The filing seeks to recover $15.3 million in deferred power supply costs through the Energy Recovery Mechanism—replacing the current recovery of $19.0 million. KXLY

- ➤ Spokane Parks and Recreation is planning to update park restrooms after many park users voiced a need for better water systems, stronger fixtures, and easier access. If voters approve the levy in November, the project will replace old systems and boost maintenance by 50%—actions meant to curb vandalism and ease closures—so parks serve visitors better.
