- ➤ The Peace and Justice Action League of Spokane held a workshop Saturday that taught over 50 protestors de-escalation techniques and steps to manage encounters with law enforcement and counter protesters — helping them calm tensions during recent demonstrations. - ➤ Local veterans will board the Inland Northwest Honor Flight on April 16th as Spokane residents gather at Spokane International Airport's Alaska Airlines baggage claim at 5:30 a.m.—the sendoff celebration begins at 6:30 a.m. and the veterans will return on April 17th at 7:30 p.m. KXLY

- ➤ A portrait of Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel by a Ridgeline High School junior won first place among high school entries in the Jessica Stein Memorial Art Contest—part of the Spokane Community Observance of the Holocaust. More than 100 entries were sent in from middle and high schools, and winners for second and third place were honored with the winning artwork set to be displayed at Temple Beth Shalom at 7 p.m. April 23. - ➤ Governor Bob Ferguson signed HB 1172 in Olympia that allows fire districts to vote to end civil service rules if most affected employees agree—Spokane Valley Fire Chief Frank Soto Jr. and Fire Commissioner Patrick Burch met with lawmakers to discuss how the law will ease firefighter recruitment and will take effect later this year. - ➤ The Seattle Seahawks visited Liberty Lake on Saturday as part of their 50th anniversary and hosted a youth football and cheer clinic with SVYFC while giving a $5,000 grant to upgrade local equipment—they also presented a $250,000 check to HUB Sports Center to fund two new multiuse fields in Spokane Valley. - ➤ Mike Boyle, the longtime voice of Spokane Chiefs (since 2002) and Spokane Indians (since 2011), will cover two games today as he calls the Indians baseball matchup at 1:05 p.m. at Avista Stadium and then the Chiefs hockey game at 6:05 p.m. at Spokane Arena.
