- ➤ Joya Child and Family Development is expanding its services with a new 10,000 square foot space for research and education to serve local families and students. Executive Director Colleen Fuchs said the expansion will be complete in about six weeks—helping the center grow and continue quality care. KHQ
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police responded at 3:15 a.m. Friday to a shooting at north Spokane's Maverick gas station on Montgomery Avenue and Division Street that killed one person and left another critically injured—one victim was taken to a hospital. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ A deadly shooting at a Maverik gas station near Division just after 3 a.m. left one person dead and one injured today and forced nearby businesses to close as police and Major Crimes blocked the area until the station reopened just after noon — bullet holes also damaged the side of Hennessey Funeral Home. - ➤ On April 25th at about 3:15 a.m., officers responded to a shooting at a gas station on Montgomery and Division in North Spokane where one victim was pronounced dead and another was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition—detectives from the SPD Major Crimes Unit are investigating the incident. - ➤ A fatal crash that killed a pedestrian occurred Thursday night at 9:30 p.m. on Sunset Boulevard — police said the driver was released at the scene and the investigation is ongoing. KXLY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Spokane’s Water Department has been awarded a $2.8M Clean Energy Community Grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce and nearly $200K in local matching funds for new solar upgrades at its North Foothills Drive site—these funds will pay for parking structures, solar panels, battery storage and charging stations to power electric vehicles. - ➤ The City of Spokane’s Water Department was awarded a $2.8 million Clean Energy Community Grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce along with a nearly $200,000 local match to design and install solar arrays — parking structures, battery storage and EV charging stations — at its North Foothills Drive location in Hamilton.
