ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On May 6th, a shower toilet combo fell off a vehicle and blocked the middle lane on I-90 near the Argonne exit but no injuries were reported. KHQ
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Washington Trust for Historic Preservation and the City of Spokane awarded 27 activation grants totaling more than $75,000 to support neighborhood projects in business districts in Garland, Hillyard, North Monroe, and South Perry (funded by the federal American Rescue Plan Act). Applications ran from March 10 to April 7 and grantees were notified on May 5. KHQ
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A suspected DUI crash occurred about six miles north of Spokane around 8:30 a.m. Sunday when 22 year old Tibon Tibon drifted onto the left shoulder, overcorrected into southbound lanes, and flipped his vehicle several times, causing him and his 21 year old passenger (both not wearing seatbelts) to be hospitalized while DUI charges are pending. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Spokane introduced single-stream recycling 13 years ago with a blue bin system to simplify recycling, but today many plastics are sent to an incinerator instead of being recycled. Shifts in market demand and recent changes at the SMaRT Center have led Waste Management to incinerate non-bottle plastics — a move that city officials say may prompt updates to recycling guidelines.
