CRIME NEWS

  • Spokane authorities investigated a home at 625 West Maxwell Avenue—built in 1906 and divided into five apartments—that is linked to a federal case involving drugs and guns after 58 emergency calls, with owner James M. Ferguson arrested and facing charges that could lead to the property being seized.  KHQ
  • Spokane Valley Police are searching for an 11-year-old black girl last seen near East 6th Avenue—she is 4'5" tall, weighs about 100 pounds, has green and blonde hair, wore a green sweatshirt and was seen with a skateboard with a clear top, and officials urge anyone with information to call 911.  KXLY
  • Spokane Police arrested 34-year-old Jessie R. Green after a fire set on May 7 damaged a shed, pine tree, and fence on the 500 block of east North Avenue and spread embers that sparked small grass fires before Spokane Fire extinguished the flames, with the suspect taken into custody on May 8 near (5th and Cook) for first degree arson.  City of Spokane
  • Spokane police are investigating a stabbing at Riverfront Park near (Post Street and Spokane Falls Boulevard) where one person was injured and Mobius Center is closed while they prepare to release more details later.  KXLY

  • The latest District 3 Weekly Newsletter Vol. 5 explains how to read agendas and lists upcoming ordinances and meetings—such as the Urban Experience Committee meeting on May 12—with news on Council Member Klitzke’s trip to D.C.  City of Spokane
  • The City of Spokane announced a grind and overlay project on Sunset Boulevard between Cannon Street and Government Way starting May 12 with lane reductions and flaggers expected until May 27—drivers are advised to avoid the area. Crews will also close 13th Avenue between Grand and Division from May 12 to May 20 to install a pedestrian rapid flashing beacon and will add a pedestrian refuge island at Cedar Street and 12th Avenue from May 13 to June 3 with lane reductions and slowdowns.  KXLY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local nonprofit Mujeres in Action opened a new mental health program during Mental Health Awareness Month to help Latine survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Spokane. The program offers bilingual counseling plus telehealth services and advocates for legal support while ensuring client safety and confidentiality.  KXLY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Washington State and Eastern Washington men's hoops agreed on a three-year series called the 509 Classic with all games held at Spokane Arena, with the first game scheduled for Dec. 17. The series renews a historic rivalry that started in 1907 — the Cougars lead the series with 59 wins to 13.  The Spokesman-Review
