- ➤ Washington's top wildlife officials will meet virtually on Thursday and Friday this week after Governor Bob Ferguson reappointed Jim Anderson and Molly Linville and named Victor Garcia to the commission following a venue cancellation in Sequim. The Spokane Canoe and Kayak Club will host a gear swap Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Evergreen Gear Exchange while the Spokane Audubon Society will present a talk on bird science on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Shadle Park Library. - ➤ The Palace Department Store began in 1890 when Rueben Weil used $800 to open a small store & it grew into a modern six story center that changed hands several times before closing in 1952. Later, its building was remodeled for a JCPenney store and then became Spokane’s first Nordstrom. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Appleway Florist, a longtime Spokane business, is not yet affected by rising national tariffs but is preparing for future challenges—store management said. KHQ

- ➤ Liberty Park Library will host the second annual Inland Northwest Poetry Salon on Saturday with ten workshop sessions led by local poets who will cover topics like poetic textiles, nature, and overcoming writer’s block. - ➤ Two young women in Spokane, Evie Nesselrode (18) and Katie DeWitt (16), are training through the Inland Northwest Flight Service program to become military pilots in a field that is usually male dominated. They hope to mentor future pilots and boost the number of women in aviation. KHQ
- ➤ Almost 1,000 students in over 50 school bands marched in the Junior Lilac Parade on Saturday as part of the Spokane Lilac Festival. - ➤ Construction season is underway in Spokane as the city starts grind and overlay work expecting fewer major traffic impacts in 2025 than in past years. Starting Monday morning, lane reductions on Sunset Boulevard will be in effect between South Cannon Street and Government Way until May 27, and projects on 13th and Cedar streets will add pedestrian improvements + flashing crossing beacons through early June.
