- ➤ Haase's Greenhouse hosted its Plants 4 Pups event over the weekend to support Rescue Four All—an organization that rescues and places pets in homes by receiving 10% of all sales. The event featured dog adoptions and drew local support as a driver stopped to help. KHQ
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Late Saturday night, four hikers were rescued from Stevens Creek Trail by Spokane County Fire District 8—supported by Spokane Fire Department, Spokane Valley Fire Department, and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. KHQ
- ➤ A fire at a duplex on Spokane's Nevada Heights neighborhood on Sunday displaced several residents when the chimney fire spread to the attic, and firefighters quickly put it out because the house is near a fire station. KHQ
- ➤ On May 18, shortly after midnight, fire crews from Spokane Valley and other agencies rescued four teens stuck on a cliff near the Stevens Creek Trailhead in Dishman Hills Conservation Area—one teen fell 20 feet and was taken to a hospital as the rescue took about 90 minutes. KXLY

- ➤ Ray Egger, a retired arborist, now turns scrap metal from recycling venues and Facebook Marketplace into art that he gifts to family and friends. He spends about 40 hours on each piece — crafting sculptures inspired by his years in forestry and time in the Army — to bring a personal touch to his work. The Spokesman-Review
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife made it illegal to feed deer, elk, and moose with salt blocks or bait to help control chronic wasting disease detected in 2024; the rules also make bird feeders that attract these animals illegal. The agency advises residents to protect wildlife by promoting native habitats—using its Habitat at Home program for guidance. KHQ

- ➤ Today, eastbound Hartson Avenue between Freya and Havana Street is closed for safety upgrades near Scott Elementary, and a detour guides drivers around the work. The $1.9 million project will add sidewalks, curb extensions and crosswalks — steps that will slow traffic and protect pedestrians. KHQ
