- ➤ SpokAnimal is urging Spokane residents to adopt rescue dogs ahead of National Rescue Dog Day — the shelter cares for 45 dogs and 60 cats, with additional animals in foster care, and the process takes about one hour. KHQ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ GLOW Early Learning Center in Downtown Spokane helps young and teen parents by offering free child care—providing food, diapers, clothing, and case management so they can keep jobs and stay in school. Nearby Lumen High School lets teen parents bring their baby until four months old before GLOW provides full care until kindergarten. KHQ

- ➤ Spokane City Councilwoman Lili Navarrete announced on Monday that she will resign effective June 30—leaving her Council seat in District 2—after previously citing health concerns. Her resignation opens the door for a short-term appointment before the November election, with at least two candidates having filed to run for the seat. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Washington residents will face higher litter fines that rise from $103 to $256 when the law takes effect late July—retailers selling reusable plastic bags before 2028 will pay an extra 4 cents per bag. Gov. Bob Ferguson signed the law to delay the thicker bag requirement as the Legislature reviews reusable bag policies over the next two years—aiming to address the ongoing litter issue. - ➤ Spokane City Council member Lili Navarrete announced on Monday her resignation as District 2 representative with her last day set for June 30 & she said she will pursue new opportunities after 37 years in the East Central neighborhood. KHQ
- ➤ Spokane International Airport warned travelers flying out for Memorial Day Weekend to arrive two hours early due to an 18% rise in departing seats from last year and over 4,000 passengers expected daily between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The airport said it will become one of the busiest small hubs this summer (with more than 8,500 airline seats scheduled to depart daily in June and July). - ➤ The Spokane City Council will add $100,000 to its defense budget for a wrongful death lawsuit over Robert Bradley’s death in 2022 tonight — his family claims he was ambushed while prosecutors say body footage shows him reaching for a rifle. KHQ

- ➤ Nasra Gertrude said her 12-year-old daughter Sarah died after leaving a supervised room at Sacred Heart and jumping from the hospital parking garage on April 13—she said that despite promised safety measures like regular 15-minute checks, her daughter managed to exit undetected. Gertrude is seeking answers from the hospital about how such a lapse in monitoring occurred. KXLY
