- ➤ The Scale House Market — a new year-round farmers' market — will open later this month at 4422 E. 8th Avenue in Spokane Valley with an indoor space open all year and an outdoor area open May through October. Dozens of vendors will launch their booths on May 31 while local artist Michael Che Romero’s murals are on display. KXLY

- ➤ Frontier Airlines is resuming flight service from Spokane International Airport with one daily flight to and from Denver on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays—starting August 17, the route will operate only on Sundays and Thursdays, marking its first service since September 2021. KHQ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On May 21, Catholic Charities transferred land to Salish School to help revitalize Indigenous language and culture in Spokane. The collaboration will build a permanent home that includes new classrooms, a cultural center — and affordable housing. KHQ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Spokane Public Schools and the city’s Parks & Recreation will work together to complete nearly 200 projects if voters approve a parks levy and school bond in November—projects that include new parks within a 10-minute walk, improved school facilities, and upgraded sports fields. Taxpayers will see a small increase in property taxes—about 29 cents per $1,000 in assessed value. Inlander
- ➤ Spokane joined with Spokane Valley and Spokane County in a five-year plan to coordinate homelessness services—sharing data and addressing funding gaps without merging separate funds. Federal officials rescinded $48M for a Spokane aerospace hub and terminated nearly $20M for Gonzaga University's climate project on May 16, prompting local leaders to protest the decisions. Inlander

- ➤ A firefighter injured last summer near the Nez Perce Reservation is now medically stable and will be transferred to a neurological injury facility in Omaha. - ➤ Deborah Cano, a Spokane grandmother, volunteers with NAMI Spokane after her grandson’s struggle with Bipolar I with psychosis showed how serious teen mental health issues are in our community—Spokane Regional Health District data reveal that youth suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 15 to 24.
