- ➤ Today at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, the Washington State Fallen Heroes Project is expanding its Boots on the Ground display to include over 300 Vietnam War heroes and more than 300 post-9/11 local fallen heroes. Project Director Keirston Lyons (a mother who lost her son) said veteran Jim Devaney (who served three years in the Army and one in Vietnam) stressed the need for community members to say the heroes’ names aloud in remembrance. - ➤ The Spokane County Sheriff's Office warned residents about fake court summons used to steal money after a local victim lost $4,000 and said government agencies never call, email, or text to demand immediate payment — residents should verify any suspicious contact by calling the official office directly. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials in Spokane County warn people to be cautious near local waterways during Memorial Day weekend because the Spokane River remains at 54 degrees and flows at 6,400 cubic feet per second — conditions that can quickly sap body heat. They advise wearing life jackets and choosing other activities until the river improves — even for those only planning to dip their feet. KXLY
