- ➤ A new outdoor market called Global Food and Art Market is taking place in Spokane’s Garland District this summer at the Gathering House parking lot at 733 W. Garland Avenue from May 6 to July 29 and is open weekly from 3 to 7 p.m. — it features live music, international food such as pupusas, street tacos and shawarma, and local handmade art. KXLY
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Late Sunday night, multiple intentionally set fires erupted along High Drive in a South Hill neighborhood, leaving residents shaken as flames were brought under control by midnight—authorities are investigating and reviewing drone footage while asking for public tips. KXLY
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Spokane Symphony Associates will host the 16th annual Upscale Sale at the former Rite Aid at 9120 N. Division starting May 29 to benefit the Spokane Symphony Orchestra. Volunteers organized donated treasures from 120 donors for early access on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. — regular sale hours are May 30-31, June 1, June 6, and June 7. KXLY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Three new electric buses have been put into service by West Valley School District; they arrived last month and began transporting students two weeks ago. The buses use exterior speakers that play white noise so pedestrians can hear them coming and are expected to reduce fuel and maintenance costs—half the cost was covered by a federal grant. - ➤ Spokane native astronaut Anne McClain is speaking live with Gonzaga Prep students from the International Space Station today at 10:00 a.m. —she will answer questions and share her experiences from space— in this unique educational event. KHQ

- ➤ On Monday morning, dozens gathered at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake to honor fallen service members during the Memorial Day ceremony. Solomon Gilbert, deputy director of the Department of Veteran Affairs, addressed the crowd while attendees quietly visited graves — a solemn tribute to their sacrifice. KXLY

- ➤ On May 31, Spokanites will join Walk MS in Kendall Yards — 1335 W. Summit Pkwy — to raise funds and support people living with Multiple Sclerosis as they choose a one- or three-mile accessible route. The event will open at 8:30 a.m. at the site with a ceremony at 9:45 a.m. and a walk kickoff at 10 a.m., and a $100 donation earns a Walk MS t-shirt while registration remains free. KXLY
