BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tagliare Delicatessen, a Missoula-based eatery with Italian flair, opened its first Washington location in West Plains back in February, offering house-made sauces on specialty baguettes, an Italian market, and corporate catering options.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Jessica Laughery (33) was named CEO of the Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce in April and now balances early mornings dropping her son off at Saint Aloysius Montessori at 8:30 a.m. as she meets with local business owners to strengthen community support.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Meta announced today that it will lay off 1,395 employees across several facilities in western Washington.  KHQ
  • Spokane Valley's Flight 509, a locally-owned family entertainment center (in business for two years with attractions like laser tag, arcade games and mini bowling) will close permanently on Saturday, June 13. It will honor private events through July 2 and let members use their memberships until its final day.  KXLY

ECONOMY NEWS

  • According to state data, Washington lost 4,500 jobs in April, raising the unemployment rate to 5.2%—above the national rate of 4.3% while Ferry County reached 7.9% and Spokane stood at 4.6%.  KXLY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, May 26, the City of Spokane reported its renewable and compressed natural gas-fueled solid waste trucks saved ratepayers up to $2.6 million while cutting diesel use by 77% compared to 2015. The fuel shift supports an expanded CNG station and lowers pollution while stabilizing fuel costs.  City of Spokane

  • State agencies are boosting worker rights enforcement ahead of Seattle's first World Cup match on June 15, with fan zones planned in Spokane + other areas statewide. Officials say workers will have access to multilingual resources and clear guidelines on wages, breaks and protections.  KHQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new report finds that Spokane now ranks among the worst for grass pollen, with counts reaching 120 grains per cubic meter (a high level). Climate change and shifting weather patterns have lengthened the allergy season, prompting health officials to advise residents to take precautionary measures.  The Spokesman-Review

  • The former Albertson’s grocery store building on South Hill — initially planned to house MUV Fitness — is back on the market for lease, NAI Black said. It sits at the corner of 37th and Grand.  KXLY

  • At Gesa Stadium Tuesday, Anthony Scull hit a go-ahead home run in the eighth to give the Dust Devils a 3-2 win over the Spokane Indians in the series opener. The series continues today at 6:30 p.m.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Spokane and Gonzaga University were selected as a Team Base Camp for Egypt's FIFA World Cup 2026 training sessions; the base camp, anchored at Luger Field (a premier facility), will host practice sessions and team meetings as the team prepares for summer matches.  City of Spokane
