- ➤ Today, Deer Park track and field team got a warm send-off as local fire and police escorted them out of town plus residents cheered while local businesses offered free coffee for their journey to the state tournament. KHQ
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A crash on I-90 westbound near Salnave Road blocked the right lane at 9:30 a.m. today — drivers are advised to plan for extra travel time as no injuries were reported. KHQ
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Spokane Valley deputies arrested 58-year-old Donald E. Tibbitts Jr. on May 24 after he tried to steal over $2,700 worth of items from a store on E. Sprague Avenue + he fled by tossing goods in the parking lot and jumping a fence, and officials booked him on charges of felony theft along with an active misdemeanor warrant and set his bond at $5,250. - ➤ Cheney and Three Springs high schools were evacuated yesterday afternoon after an anonymous bomb threat; Cheney students were moved to the baseball field just before 2 p.m. as officers closed nearby roads and relocated them to Eighth Street — law enforcement later secured the area. - ➤ Gonzaga Public Health director Robin Pickering said he mentored Maddie Ediger when she took Public Health 101 and studied why some people fear vaccines. Ediger, now student body president and an intern at Spokane Regional Health District, will start her master’s in public health at the University of Washington this fall—her work shows how classroom lessons lead to real health solutions. - ➤ Spokane International Airport will hold a full-scale emergency training exercise on Wednesday, June 4 from 12 p.m. — 5 p.m. for its Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting department and local responders, which will include a simulated aircraft incident with volunteer victims while scheduled flights remain unaffected. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Spokane County is building a new $13 million sobering center to treat addiction and reduce opioid overdoses — the facility is built onto the Regional Stabilization Center with $3 million in state funding. County officials said the center will double current treatment capacity and finish construction in 2027 — offering immediate care to those in need. KXLY
