ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Two separate crashes on US 395 north of Connell on Saturday led to one death and five injuries—one crash occurred when a car hit a truck slowing for traffic and the other involved a six-vehicle pileup that resulted in the death of 29-year-old Andrew Thomas of Spokane while four others were injured, one of whom was taken to hospital. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Kevin Christensen—a local actor and fisherman—was fatally stabbed at his South Hill apartment on May 13 while trying to help during an attack by 61-year-old David McFarland who had stabbed a woman before a resident shot him dead in self-defense. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Two people were arrested in Spokane for a drive-by shooting and standoff (allegedly linked to a recent incident) (with authorities continuing their investigation). KHQ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Spokane Pride kicked off the month today with its opening ceremony — the History and Remembrance Project — which featured a library exhibit and flag raising. KHQ
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Spokane had its biggest year of tourism in 2024 with over 10 million visitors and $1.53 billion in spending—boosting local businesses and generating $233 million in state and local taxes that eased financial pressure for residents. KHQ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Millwood will begin its largest road construction project in over a decade next Monday — the project will overhaul Argonne Road by adding left turn lanes, upgrading rail crossing equipment, and creating a multimodal pathway to improve safety and traffic flow. Local business owners worry that traffic delays during the summer may reduce customer access until the work finishes in September. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Spokane’s Bishop Thomas Daly filed a lawsuit in federal court to challenge a new Washington law that requires clergy to report suspected child abuse even when revealed in confession—Governor Bob Ferguson signed the law last month and it is set to take effect on July 27. KHQ

- ➤ There are only three days to register for Hoopfest 2025—registration closes at midnight on June 4—and players from around the world will meet downtown Spokane on June 28 and 29 for the world’s largest three-on-three tournament. KXLY
- ➤ Hundreds will gather at Northern Quest Center Court on June 27 for a knockout game where over 700 players aged 8 and up will try to set a world record. Registration costs $5, tip-off is at 2 p.m.—Hoopfest will continue on June 28-29. KXLY
