COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City leaders and residents of Spokane's East-Central neighborhood plan changes to improve infrastructure—investing in walkability and cultural restoration. A virtual draft plan workshop will be held on June 11 at 6:00 p.m.—renderings may appear within six months and renovations begin in two to five years.  KHQ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Twigs Bistro and Martini Bar will close its South Hill location at 4320 S. Regal St. in mid- or late June after 20 years, planning to reopen a new site in a few months or years — while the remodeled River Park Square location is set to welcome customers.  The Spokesman-Review

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Spokesman-Review staff earned 10 awards at the 2025 SPJ Northwest Excellence in Journalism Awards, with copy desk chief Caitlin Miller and others recognized for design and live reporting (which included major coverage of a fatal incident on Canfield Mountain). ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Spokane implemented annual water restrictions today through Oct. 1 to conserve water during the hotter months. Residents are urged to follow the schedule (no watering from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and only four times a week) and can request a free consultation with a water efficiency specialist.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a Monday briefing, Spokane Police detailed that nearly 1,400 tickets were issued under the Safe and Acceptable Spaces initiative (61% in Riverside) along with 2,600 engagements, 1,500 service offers, and progress on the downtown high utilizer project that had moved some high users into housing or treatment.  KHQ
  • Lane reductions (from Highway 904 in Four Lakes to just west of the Geiger Blvd. interchange) on I-90 west of Spokane began Monday night as paving work ran nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for one week.  KXLY
  • The City of Spokane’s Housing and Human Services Department has launched a webpage to help tenants and landlords find eviction prevention resources today. It features information on tenant rights, rental assistance, and free legal help to prevent housing instability.  KXLY

HEALTH NEWS

  • MultiCare and Premera Blue Cross extended their deadline — Premera coverage will remain at MultiCare facilities through June 30 — as they negotiate a new two-year contract to avoid a gap in care for over 64,000 local members.  The Spokesman-Review

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Riverfront Eats returns this week at Riverfront Park; it runs Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. across the Howard Street Bridge through August. The series features a new food truck lineup every week, including local favorites MacDaddy's + Madfire Kitchen + Churro Hut + Kona Ice.  KXLY

  • Former WSU coach Mike Leach is on the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame ballot for the 2027 class after requirements were lowered following his Dec. 2022 death; his 2012–18 tenure saw the Cougars reach six bowl appearances.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Spokane Indians pitcher Jackson Cox — who threw six shutout innings on Sunday in Pasco — was named Northwest League pitcher of the week as former Gonzaga star Gabriel Hughes makes another rehab start at Avista Stadium. The team begins a six-game homestand today.  The Spokesman-Review
