- ➤ Local law enforcement continues to search for a father wanted for murder + officials are following new leads in the investigation. KXLY
- ➤ Two shootings near 1300 W Courtland yesterday led Spokane Police to step up patrols and deploy round-the-clock surveillance — no victims or suspects were found and authorities urge anyone with information to call Crime Check. City of Spokane
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Washington Department of Ecology proposed new rules to limit PFAS (forever chemicals) in household products like clothing, cleaning supplies, and car wash soap made or sold in the state. Public comments are accepted from June 4 to July 20, reporting will begin January 1, 2026 and restrictions will start January 1, 2027. KXLY
- ➤ Spokane Valley City Council unanimously rejected Councilman Al Merkel’s settlement offer during Tuesday’s meeting—leaving an ongoing public records dispute over his social media communications unresolved. A hearing on Merkel’s motion to dismiss is scheduled for July 18 before Superior Court Judge Rachelle Anderson. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Spokane International Airport held a full-scale emergency drill yesterday where first responders and airport firefighters practiced handling a fake aircraft incident with 65 actors portraying injuries — a test of response time and coordination that met FAA requirements. KXLY
