CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A film calendar offers screenings at Garland Theater, Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre, Magic Lantern and Commellini Estate starting Friday — including a 30th anniversary 'Power Rangers' event with special guest Steve Cardenas at 7:30 p.m. for $10 — along with films such as 'Top Gun' and 'Old Boy'. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents are urged to conserve water as demand grows for the local aquifer. A Level 1 water restriction has been in place since June 1 and officials now recommend Level 2 measures—allowing landscape watering only twice a week and stopping hardscape cleaning—to protect water for the river. KHQ
- ➤ State and local firefighters contained a brush fire at Pond Loop Trail in Dishman Hills—an acre in size—with help from the Department of Natural Resources and Spokane Valley Fire. KXLY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials announced that millions in state funding were secured last Friday to support Spokane’s public safety, housing, behavioral health and community development priorities—key investments include $750,000 for a police training center expansion, $1 million for a senior housing project and $3 million to build a new crisis relief center. - ➤ Spokane International Airport will close its primary runway from Monday, June 9 through Wednesday, June 11 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. for Taxiway Alpha construction—routing flights over South Hill and causing increased noise for local residents while evening and overnight flights operate normally.
