ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fatal multi-vehicle crash on Highway 291 near Nine Mile Falls involving a commercial truck and two passenger vehicles blocked both directions of traffic as emergency responders and Life Flight responded—WSDOT said the highway remained closed while investigating the fatality and advised drivers to take alternate routes. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Spokane County deputies arrested a 17-year-old suspect for burglary and vehicle prowling near N. Country Homes Blvd. and W. Excell Drive. A heat advisory remains in effect until 9 PM PDT with temperatures predicted between 91 and 101 degrees in several areas — residents are advised to drink fluids and stay cool. KHQ
- ➤ Federal authorities in Chelan County have expanded the Travis Decker investigation by identifying new search areas—federal agents say further leads are under review. A heat advisory remains in effect from noon Monday to 9 PM PDT Tuesday in areas including Downtown Spokane and Spokane Valley with temperatures reaching between 91 and 101 degrees. KHQ
- ➤ Local attorney Joseph Kuhlman lost his license after a suspension by the Washington State Bar Association—he now faces a bench warrant for a DUI charge from February and clients report his behavior raised concerns over substance use. KHQ
- ➤ Patrick Monahan, a 73-year-old South Hill resident, died from head injuries after a July 6 neighbor dispute when attorney Brennan “Boone” J. - ➤ The Spokane City Council will debate a proposed ordinance on June 16 that seeks to reinstate Proposition 1’s camping restrictions, which were repealed by the Washington Supreme Court earlier this year. The measure could ban camping within 1,000 feet of homes, schools, and child care centers—raising concerns from local homeless support groups. KHQ
- ➤ Spokanites who have endured two decades of North Spokane Corridor construction see hope—Governor Ferguson announced on Monday that funding for the final three phases is secured despite years of work ahead. The multi-use highway is not expected to finish until no earlier than 2030—when it will ease traffic and boost local development. KXLY
- ➤ Millwood crews began a major project to widen Argonne Road today to add a center lane, left-turn lanes, a shared-use path and new signals between Frederick and Liberty. Drivers should plan for delays + lane closures and flaggers through the summer as work is set to finish in late September. KXLY
- ➤ The City of Spokane released its annual drinking water quality report yesterday showing that the water met state and federal standards even with low PFAS levels at a few wells — one test result was slightly above the revised EPA mark, but the overall average remains below 4 ppt.
