- ➤ Former Councilman Ben Stuckart blocked an ICE bus on Wednesday at a protest that grew from a dozen to hundreds + he was arrested around 7:30 p.m. for failing to disperse while urging the release of detained immigration seekers Cesar and Venezuelan Joswar + he later criticized police for not using proper de-escalation tactics. - ➤ Spokane Police are searching for 16-year-old Kaelab and 15-year-old Gage—last seen early June 12 near Fiske Street and 33rd Avenue—and ask anyone with information to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233. KXLY
- ➤ In Spokane, ICE protester Justice Forral in a pink tank top and Erin Lang went to court today after police said Forral blocked officers by parking his red Toyota Yaris in front of a van and cutting the tires of an ICE vehicle—both face felony charges for unlawful detainment and were released on their own recognizance with a $2,500 bail and a condition to stay away from ICE facilities. - ➤ Spokane Civic Theatre is hosting the Bryan Harnetiaux Playwrights’ Forum Festival through June 22 to feature two rotations of plays by local and regional writers, with performances scheduled at 7:30 p.m. today for Rotation B, 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday for Rotation A, plus additional shows on Saturday and Sunday. The festival honors Harnetiaux’s role as playwright in residence since 1982 and offers a chance for emerging and established playwrights to see their work evolve through live rehearsal and performance — enriching our local theater scene. - ➤ The Bureau of Land Management said new rules to lower wildfire risks will go into effect today on public lands in Spokane and 19 other counties (exceptions apply at designated campgrounds) by banning smoking, campfires and fireworks. - ➤ Washington lawmakers passed several bills that strengthen immigrant protections—new laws improve oversight of detention centers, let workers use paid sick leave for immigration hearings, and bar bail bond agents from enforcing immigration laws; Gov. - ➤ A protest against ICE detainment began at 2 p.m. downtown when a Facebook call spurred demonstrators to block a transport vehicle carrying two Venezuelans under legal guardianship, and the group grew as protesters deflated tires and moved benches to block facility entrances. The protest escalated when a demonstrator slashed a van’s tires at 7 p.m.—and officials later used pepper balls while Mayor Lisa Brown declared a state of emergency at 9 p.m. KHQ
