COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Spokane hosts a busy schedule as the Pride parade begins at noon near Riverfront Park, followed by a Stonewall Rally and a No Kings rally from 3 to 5, while Jesus Fest on Garland runs from 3 to 6 with guest pastor Sean Feucht. Some community organizations have backed out over safety concerns stemming from recent protests that saw law enforcement use crowd-control tools—officials say safety measures are in place.  Inlander

  • Spokane Police Department investigated a body found near La Quinta hotel (211 S Division Street) last Friday and do not suspect foul play at this time.  KHQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Spokane Park Board voted on Thursday to approve a downtown zipline project along the river—operated by Mica Moon and running from near City Hall under the Monroe Street Bridge to Redband Park in Peaceful Valley. Spokane council will vote on the plan on June 23; if approved, the city expects the Department of Ecology to grant a permit by July 2 and Mica Moon to receive final building approval.  KXLY

  • Upriver Drive near Spokane Community College is closed from Greene Street to Ralph Street for the installation of a pedestrian bridge over the Spokane River — drivers must use a detour via Euclid Avenue or Mission.   • Washington State University's Steve Gleason Institute for Neuroscience launched a new continuing education series on June 13th that offers seven online courses on ALS research & treatment techniques in partnership with the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine.  Spokane University District
  • The Washington Department of Health said whooping cough cases rose from 87 in 2023 to 2,261 in 2024 and reached 1,314 in 2025 so far — vaccination rates among 19–35-month-olds dropped from 73% in 2019 to 65% in 2024.  KXLY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Hoopfest, the world’s largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament, will be held on June 28-29 in Spokane—organizers explained that hoops are staged at a warehouse and moved by forklifts with 376 sponsored backboards supporting local businesses. The event is recruiting Court Monitor volunteers with training provided and 50 spots available.  KHQ
