ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to an antique open cockpit biplane crash near Skymeadow Lane and 44th Avenue—witnesses said the plane lost power during takeoff from Skymeadow Airpark—and both passengers managed to exit safely with one receiving minor injuries while the FAA and Spokane County Fire District 8 investigate the scene.  KHQ
  • A small antique biplane crashed while trying to take off from Sky Meadows Airpark in Spokane Valley on June 15—two onboard escaped and one was hospitalized with minor injuries, with the FAA responding to the scene as no cause has been determined.  KXLY

  • Clayton Burger has reopened on a limited schedule near Loon Lake under the same ownership that ran it since 1960—after closing for 61 years when a buyer could not be found. The restaurant now serves customers on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  KHQ

  • Two people died after a triple carjacking & police chase in Spokane Valley that spanned Spokane County & Kootenai County.  KHQ
  • Today, Spokane Valley Police and Spokane County deputies responded to a police shooting that blocked Trent Avenue at Pines Road—drivers are urged to take alternate routes as the investigation continues.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Spokane Public Schools have balanced their budget by reducing staff and programming amid rising costs and financial challenges faced over the past three years. Board President Nikki Otero Lockwood criticized voucher programs for diverting public funds without oversight — urging residents to submit comments to the U.S. Department of Education by June 20.  The Spokesman-Review

  • On Sunday, 3,178 Inland Power customers lost power in Stevens County as of 2:45 p.m. on June 15 while 122 in Spokane also lost power; officials are investigating the cause and have not set a time for power to return.  KXLY
