  • Airway Heights police and fire departments celebrated young Scout’s birthday after he asked for a party with them. Scout, recently diagnosed with three types of epilepsy, enjoyed an unforgettable celebration — a moment of light during his challenging journey.  KHQ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Spokane County Fire District 3 firefighters responded Saturday morning to a hay-filled shop fire on the 24000 block of West Thorpe Road in Medical Lake—fire crews worked to protect nearby structures and reported no injuries.  KHQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Spokane Fire Department reminds residents that outdoor burn restrictions are in place for backyard fire pits and campfires while barbecues, fireplaces, patio warmers and chimneys remain allowed with proper precautions—those who break the rules risk an infraction.  KXLY
  • A moment of radio silence was observed at noon on Saturday to honor Lieutenant Jon Anderson, who lost his life in the line of duty six years ago—Anderson served in Spokane for over 30 years, earning the Silver Star and two Chief's Citations for his work in major events like Bloomsday and Hoopfest.  KHQ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ryan Johnson of the Tri-City Dust Devils threw a one-hit complete game Saturday at Avista Stadium as his team beat the Spokane Indians 2-0 in the second game of a three-game Northwest League series, striking out 12 while allowing one batter to reach base. Johnson, a 2024 Angels draft pick, lowered his High-A ERA to 1.99 over 10 starts this season.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Gonzaga players Graham Ike and Braden Huff have chosen to stay with the team for another season, showing their strong bond and commitment to playing together. Their return was announced on April 22 and they look forward to building on their success next season—both believe that Gonzaga is home.  The Spokesman-Review
