COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Police ask local residents to register for National Night Out Against Crime on Tuesday August 5th — registration is due by July 22nd — to help build community partnerships.  City of Spokane
  • Spokane residents can still register to host a block party for National Night Out Against Crime until July 22—organizers can request visits from Spokane law enforcement, firefighters, councilmembers and Mayor Brown—and the event will be held on August 5.  KXLY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On September 4, the Washington Small Business Liaison Team will host a free live webinar called 'Starting a Business in Washington' at 11 a.m. on Zoom. The hour-long session will cover small business registration, licensing requirements and offer a chance to connect with team members for guidance.  KXLY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Two tribute bands will recreate Beatles and Rolling Stones music at the Fox Theater on August 5 during a North American tour. The show will feature live renditions of classics like Hey Jude, Come Together, and Satisfaction — with tickets ranging from $35 to $75.  KXLY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Riverside State Park reopened after a fire burned 50 acres starting July 6 and park officials urged visitors to follow burning restrictions that ban charcoal and wood fires while allowing propane stoves—fire crews kept damage low with past forest work and safe evacuations.  KHQ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Scott Wortley, head coach of Lewis and Clark High School's men's tennis team, is urging a Together Spokane proposal to build a public-use indoor tennis court in Shadle Park for year-round play—he says the new facility will boost access to wellness programs. The plan, set for the November ballot, would refurbish courts and expand tennis programs as the United States Tennis Association Pacific Northwest noted that 22 indoor courts currently serve over 44,000 players—47,000 more people want to play.  KHQ
