- ➤ Cherry Hill Orchard and Market reopened its U-pick season on Wednesday in Green Bluff after last year’s crop failed due to harsh winter weather, and families enjoyed picking ripe cherries and raspberries from 15 acres of fruit trees. - ➤ Cheney families can enjoy the new aquatic center opening today at 115 N. 8th Street; the four-year project gathered community input and planning to add a water slide, lazy river, climbing wall and zipline. - ➤ Deputies in north Spokane arrested 27 year old Davidson Baker on July 10 after he failed to stop at a red light on Division Street — he swerved erratically across lanes while attempting to evade officers and was taken to the hospital for a blood test — and he was booked for DUI and eluding law enforcement. - ➤ Spokane attorney Joe Kuhlman was suspended by the Washington Supreme Court after questions arose about his health and competence during a trial—he now faces criminal warrants for missing court hearings, a DUI and drug possession charge. The Spokesman-Review
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Spokane voters will decide in August whether to join the aquifer protection area—adding a $15 annual fee that will help double funding for water monitoring and pollution prevention. If approved, fee collection will begin in 2026 and the funds will be used to monitor 51 sites to protect the aquifer for nearly 500,000 residents. The Spokesman-Review
