  • Nuestras Raíces Centro Comunitario is hosting the Nuestra Raíces Community Fiesta today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at No-Li Brewhouse Bier Hall after canceling the Tacos y Tequila Festival due to safety concerns — the event will celebrate Hispanic culture and raise funds for the Nuestra Raíces Capital Campaign.  KXLY
  • The Spokane Homeless Coalition held a mini-conference on Thursday at CHAS Learning Institute to address fentanyl use and rising deaths, which surged 300% over the past five years. Dozens of experts and former users discussed strategies to combat the crisis and the threat from Nitazene—a synthetic opioid five times stronger than fentanyl.  KHQ

CRIME NEWS

  • Spokane Police responded to a reported stabbing near City Hall on Thursday evening and closed Monroe Street Bridge at Summit Parkway and Spokane Falls Boulevard at Post Street while working to detain a suspect on the Post Street Bridge.  KXLY
  • Caleb R. McKee—49—was sentenced by Spokane County Superior Court to at least 23 years to life in prison for repeatedly raping and molesting a girl over a 10-year period starting when she was 6.  The Spokesman-Review

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Spokane native aboard the NASA SpaceX crew experienced a delay in their return to Earth due to high winds. Officials postponed the undocking until no earlier than tomorrow, and the crew will splash down off the California coast at about 8:30 p.m. Pacific Time — 9:30 p.m. Mountain Time.  KHQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Providence Inland Northwest is set to lay off 60 people as it closes multiple outpatient clinics in Spokane and Stevens counties—rising costs and federal cuts have forced the decision. The affected clinics at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chewelah, Spokane, and Spokane Valley will end operations on October 3 while inpatient services continue.  KXLY
  • Providence Inland Northwest will close several clinics in Spokane and Stevens County amid mounting financial pressures, with services ending on October 3. About 60 positions will be impacted—Providence is coordinating with local providers to help affected caregivers and ensure smooth patient transitions.  KHQ
