After the Old Trails Fire destroyed their home, a Spokane family recovered a treasured wedding ring (a beloved family heirloom) with help from firefighters and relatives.

The find offers a lasting link to their history and a moment of relief amid a challenging time.

A study published in Nature Climate Change in September found that wildfires in Spokane may cause common whitetail dragonflies to overheat after the fires, as their dark wings absorb extra heat, which could reduce their numbers along local waterways & backyards.

Highway 291 is now open after being closed for over a week because of the Spokane Complex Fires, with clearance efforts that included drone surveys & hazardous tree removal.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time as some level 3 evacuations remain in effect along parts of the route.

Wildfires that burned over 10,000 acres and destroyed more than 900 structures have removed up to 750 homes, and officials say that rebuilding lost structures will take three to five years and push up rental and purchase costs.

Mead grad Bradley Mulder pushed through a tough round at DuPont’s Home Course to earn an exemption into the U.S. Amateur — he will tee off today at Philadelphia Country Club and Tuesday at Merion Golf Club.

Mulder said his disciplined play helped him overcome pressure on the course.
