- ➤ Registration is open for a Tree Trot 5k fundraiser at Finch Arboretum on October 4—participants can choose a competitive run at 9 a.m. or a family trail run at noon with each receiving a custom t-shirt, costing 30 dollars for adults and 20 dollars for children; pre-registration must be completed by September 11 to support the Willow nature-based playground project. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Spokane Valley Fire Department responded at 2 a.m. to three small brush fires at Mirabeau Trailhead on Centennial Trail and later found a fourth fire as sheriff's deputies patrolled the area—officials say the fires are suspicious with no injuries or damage reported. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Officers served a search warrant on Tuesday, August 12 at 2:21 p.m. in the 2600 block of North Freya and found $255,000 cash, 63 firearms, fentanyl, meth, and explosives including a foreign military hand grenade, a training bomblet and a modified firework—while the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit safely removed the explosive items. - ➤ The Lilac Bloomsday Association is accepting entries for its 50th Running Finisher Shirt Design Contest with submissions due through September 26—artists must follow design rules and submit hard copies to 1414 North Belt Street, Spokane. The winner will be notified in early November and receive a $1,000 cash prize. KXLY
