Good morning, Spokane. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 20th of August.

CRIME NEWS

  • Spokane allocated $7.5 million from multiple funds for nine affordable housing projects—four new construction projects will add 95 rental units while other projects will preserve and create affordable options for low-income and vulnerable households. • Governor Ferguson held a press conference Tuesday where he said Washington will not change its policies after Attorney General Bondi labeled the state a sanctuary jurisdiction and threatened criminal charges for noncompliance. He stressed his office would keep law enforcement focused on public safety — not on enforcing federal immigration rules — and that Washington will not be bullied by federal threats.  KHQ
  • Mayor Lisa Brown ordered flags at all City facilities to be lowered to half-staff in memory of Sergeant Kenneth Salas, who was struck and killed while helping with a traffic hazard on Interstate 90 Tuesday. A memorial service will be held today at 1 p.m. at the Spokane Convention Center—residents with flags outside are encouraged to join in honoring his service.  City of Spokane

HEALTH NEWS

  • Washington's Attorney General's Office launched the Hear Me WA hotline to support young people 25 and younger who face stress, anxiety, eating disorders and abuse, especially in underserved rural communities & Spokane County where mental health help is scarce.
