  • On Saturday, the Airway Heights Police K-9 officer celebrated Airway Heights Day at Sunset Park—he greeted local residents with friendly interactions that showed the community spirit.  KHQ
  • Students aged 5 to 18 will receive free haircuts today at The Man Shop’s back-to-school event in Spokane Valley and the event will move locations tomorrow. A heat advisory remains in effect until 9 PM PDT Wednesday—residents should drink plenty of fluids and stay cool.  KHQ

CRIME NEWS

  • FBI data shows that violent crime increased in Washington state even though the nation saw a drop, causing concern among residents. A heat advisory remains in effect until 9 PM PDT Wednesday, and residents are advised to drink fluids and avoid outdoor activities as temperatures rise to 90 to 99 degrees below 3500 feet and 80 to 89 above.  KHQ

CULTURE NEWS

  • The warehouses along the Spokane River north bank between Washington and Division streets once lined tracks of the Spokane International Railway, which linked local industry to Canadian railroads. Businessman Daniel Corbin built and later sold the line, and its depot—built around 1906—was removed for Expo ’74.  The Spokesman-Review
