CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A man was arrested for stabbing a woman in the chest Monday evening at an apartment complex on East Hawthorne Road—Spokane police responded to the incident. KHQ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Today at 2 p.m., The Wall that Heals — a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial honoring 58,281 fallen soldiers — opened at Dwight Merkel Sports Complex for public viewing until Sunday. The Spokesman-Review
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ More than 5,000 Cheney Public School students returned Monday morning to classrooms in upgraded schools with bond-funded improvements such as a new bus loop at Windsor—streamlining drop-offs—and revised cell phone rules that restrict middle and high school device use during class time. KXLY
- ➤ Toby Doolittle, president of the Mead Education Association, said the union is pushing for safer classrooms and lower class sizes in its 16th bargaining session as district leaders have yet to provide a clear plan for addressing overcrowding and limited support. - ➤ Spokane City Hall and many city offices will be closed on Labor Day Monday, Sept. 1 plus garbage, recycling and yard waste services will run a day late while libraries, the municipal court and 311 offices will not be available.
