CRIME NEWS

  • A convicted felon carrying a revolver led a dangerous police chase in downtown Spokane on Thursday afternoon, nearly striking pedestrians before he abandoned his car and was arrested in the lower south hill area—officers recovered his discarded gun with a K9 unit.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parents in the Mead School District are worried as 97% of teachers approved a strike if no contract is reached by Sunday, leaving plans for back-to-school uncertain. The district remains optimistic that classes will start on September 2 — negotiators continue talks through the weekend.  KXLY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pullman beat writers Greg Woods and Jamey Vinnick launched the new Cougar Prowl Podcast that dropped its first episode on Friday and will provide weekly updates during the WSU football season. Future episodes will come each Monday—after Coach Jimmy Rogers' press conference—to give listeners extra insights into the team.  The Spokesman-Review
