- ➤ Forbes released its Top Colleges list on September 4—rankings that place Washington State University at 139, Gonzaga University at 253, and University of Washington, Seattle at 50 among Washington colleges. Spokane University District
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Spokane Fire will begin wildfire fuels reduction work on South Hill Bluff on October 1 to improve forest health and lower fire risk—crews will operate up to 7 days a week on an area covering 160—200 acres while residents avoid active work zones. City of Spokane
- ➤ Smoke and haze from wildfires continue to affect air quality today and into tonight as northeasterly winds carry additional smoke from Idaho and Montana—temperatures will remain in the 90s despite cooler conditions. KXLY
- ➤ A wildfire burning in Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area has forced evacuations and closed recreation sites due to the Crown Fire. Officials reported that North Gorge Campground and its boat launch are closed under a Level 2 notice while Evans Campground is closed under a Level 1 notice—residents and visitors should remain alert.
