COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At Spokane Fair, Jim Hall from Butler Amusements said safety remains the top priority after a fire at Vista Stadium earlier — he noted that rides from events like the Evergreen State Fair are inspected and extra checks are made, and he advised visitors not to use cell phones on rides. He added that a clear evacuation plan is in place to protect families during the event.  KHQ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The concession building at Avista Stadium was declared a complete loss when a fire erupted early Friday at around 2:45 a.m., with firefighters reporting no injuries and no damage to other stadium areas as investigators begin checking the cause.  The Spokesman-Review

  • On September 5th, Spokane police arrested 29-year-old fugitive Colton Hite after he was found unarmed at a residence in the 900 block of West Maxwell — he faces an extraditable felony warrant from Idaho and charges for Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle, Unlawful Imprisonment, and Reckless Endangerment.  City of Spokane

  • Local weather officials say air quality might improve today—despite ongoing wildfires burning in parts of the Northwest—as shifting winds are expected to carry smoke away.  KXLY
  • The Washington Department of Ecology today released its 2025 Summary Report on the Science of Human Caused Climate Change and issued an official rebuke of a DOE report that downplays greenhouse gases—stating that Washington has warmed 2°F since 1900 and extreme heat days will rise significantly.  KHQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Washington restored COVID-19 vaccine access today by issuing a new standing order that lets anyone 6 months or older get the vaccine without a prescription, sidestepping federal restrictions. Gov. Ferguson said the state is acting on sound science and may change insurance rules if needed.  The Spokesman-Review

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A new apartment complex called Cause on Fourth is being built in downtown Spokane near Lewis and Clark High School and will have 210 units including studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments available by August 2026—targeting hospital workers, students, and downtown employees amid record-low housing affordability. The developer will focus solely on finishing this project before launching any additional projects.  KHQ
