  • Spokane Valley firefighters were thanked by Lori Ragan and her daughter when they visited Fire Station One on Thursday, recalling the help provided during a medical emergency in March. Captain Brad Huffman noted the visit meant a lot to the team+ they rarely learn the outcomes of their calls.  KHQ
  • Emily Peterson, a local bookstore owner, uses an app to plan routes and refill Spokane's little free libraries with about 12,000 donated books each month from Page 42—ensuring readers of all ages have access to a variety of genres. She works to make sure middle schoolers and other community members can get books during summer, weekends, and after school.  KHQ

  • Raising Cane’s will open its second Washington location Tuesday on Newport Highway near Home Depot in North Spokane — the restaurant will open at 10 a.m. with special promotions and extended late-night hours until 1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spokane drivers will face heavy delays as southbound Ash Street will operate in one lane from Tuesday, Sept. 9 through Friday, Sept. 12 for stormwater system improvements between Augusta and Maxwell — city officials advise using alternate routes during peak traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for safety.  KXLY

  • Washington State won a 12-7 game over San Diego State on September 7, where defensive players like Isaac Terrell recorded his first sack and helped earn the program’s first safety in four years.
