- ➤ The City of Spokane is accepting applications for TACI grants that offer up to $10,000 to groups strengthening local tourism and culture using funds from hotel taxes under state law RCW 67.28.1817—an optional workshop will be held on Sept. 17th from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Central Library event room B and applications are due by Oct. 10th at 5 p.m. City of Spokane

- ➤ The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking volunteers to plant native trees (aspen, hawthorn, serviceberry, cottonwood) at the Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge outside Cheney on Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meanwhile, the Eastern Washington Delta Waterfowl chapter will host its annual banquet (at the Shriners Event Center on Sept. 27) to raise funds for local conservation projects. - ➤ The City announced that the Maxwell Avenue Bike and Pedestrian Safety Upgrades project on N. Ash St. has been postponed due to stormwater system work—drivers will face a lane reduction from three lanes to one lane from Sept 22 through Sept 24. Rockwood Blvd. will be closed to all traffic from Sept 15 to 17 for water, sewer, and stormwater repairs—this work near Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children’s Hospital is expected to finish in mid-October. - ➤ On Monday, September 15, Spokane will display Washington's handwritten Constitution at Central Library on the third floor between 3 pm and 5 pm—this rare document is normally kept in a vault in Olympia and will be seen in Eastern Washington for the first time. Inlander
- ➤ Spokane city council candidates held a spicy forum on Sunday night at The Guardian church on Washington and Sinto where they ate fiery chicken wings while answering tough questions about local issues such as housing, public safety and campaign funding.
